Rep. Marisabel Cabrera (WI)

Representative Marisabel Cabrera (WI-9) was born and raised on Milwaukee’s South Side, where her family fought to get by and, more than once, had to rely on a local church for food and other necessities; thus, she became aware at a very early age about how difficult life can be for those with little to fall back on. She remembers her parents constantly emphasizing that the surest way out of poverty is through a good education and credits a quality public education for getting her to where she is today. Marisabel took her parents advice and earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison and law degree from Michigan State University.

Marisabel is hardworking and committed to making her community better by serving in several capacities. She is an entrepreneur, immigration attorney, and former chair of the Latino Caucus of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. She’s a member of Voces de la Frontera and currently serves as the chair of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. She explains that she became a State Representative to ensure that each and every person—regardless of nationality, gender or orientation—has the same opportunities, services and protections to prosper and safely enjoy their home and community.

Marisabel was recognized as the Democratic Party of Milwaukee County's 2016 Rising Star for her work as chair of the Latino Caucus of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, and in 2018 she received the Community Champion Award from Citizen Action of Wisconsin.

She is the former Vice Chair of NHCSL's Immigration Task Force, and a former member of the Executive Committee.
