NHCSL Stands with Planned Parenthood, Patients and Providers Nationwide
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, in response to the Supreme Court of the United States’ (SCOTUS) decision overturning Medicaid’s any-qualified-provider provision to allow individuals to select their providers, the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) President Rep. Angela Romero (UT), Sen. Celina Villanueva (IL), Asm. Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas (NY), Rep. Alma Hernandez (AZ), Rep. Gina Hinojosa (TX), and Asm. Selena Torres (NV), released the following statement:
“NHCSL is appalled by the decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. Access to all forms of healthcare is a matter of critical importance for all our communities in every corner of our country, and under Medicaid’s any-qualified-provider provision, all individuals should be granted the right to select the provider that best supports their individual needs and comforts, and that includes access to Planned Parenthood health centers and providers.
“Access to healthcare is a human right, and today’s decision is a disappointing verdict in terms of our collective work at all levels of government to remove barriers to access health care, and the fundamental right each patient has to place their care in the hands of whichever qualified provider they, not the government, choose.”
