Quad Caucus Statement on Violence in Charlottesville, Virginia
WASHINGTON, DC – The Quad Caucus mourns the victims of the violent tragedy that took place August 11 and 12, 2017 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our sympathies go out to the families of those injured or killed. We strongly condemn the promotion of bigotry, racism and white supremacy. Any violence resulting from these beliefs is reprehensible, criminal, and has no place in the United States.
For the past five years, the Quad Caucus, which consists of the National Asian Pacific American Caucus of State Legislators (NAPACSL), the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators (NCNASL), and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), has worked to achieve greater racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
While the racism and violence in Charlottesville, VA was an attempt to further divide Americans, we hope we can learn from it, heal and continue to strongly work toward achieving racial equity and justice. The Quad Caucus remains committed to working together to secure equitable outcomes for all communities.
NHCSL is the premier national association of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies and procedures that will improve the quality of life for Hispanics throughout the country.
