Representative Carlos Gonzalez, better known as the “People’s Representative,” has been elected and serving since 2015. He was recently appointed to a leadership position, becoming only the second Latino to hold a leadership role in the House of Representatives.

Previously, Rep. Gonzalez served as the Chair of Public Safety and Homeland Security and as the Vice Chair of Community Development and Small Business.

During his tenure, he has championed civil and economic equity rights. He recently participated in the conference committee that established landmark gun safety legislation.

As the Chair of the MA Black and Latino Caucus, he successfully shepherded landmark legislation on POST (Police Officer Standards and Training) police reform, strengthening police training and accountability.

He also advocated for the Student Opportunity Act, which provides formula funding changes that increase resources for bilingual and special needs children, improving educational outcomes.

Additionally, he secured historical funding to promote the Homes Dream Program for diverse communities, which provides DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) opportunities for builders, developers, and homeownership, including down payment assistance in diverse neighborhoods.

Rep. Gonzalez has been a leader in establishing “microbusinesses” as a codified statute, creating funding grants and loans specifically for businesses making under $250,000 in net profit, thereby expanding opportunities for the largest pool of businesses owned by women and diverse, underserved entrepreneurs.
