Rep. Marisabel Cabrera
Rep. Marisabel Cabrera (WI-9) was born and raised on Milwaukee’s South Side, where her family fought to get by and had to rely on a local church for food and other necessities. From a young age, Rep. Cabrera’s parents stressed the importance of education as the key to overcoming poverty. This led her to earn a bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison and a law degree from Michigan State University.
Rep. Cabrera is an entrepreneur, immigration attorney, and former chair of the Latino Caucus of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. She is also a member of Voces de la Frontera and currently serves as the chair of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. Rep. Cabrera became a State Representative to ensure that each and every person—regardless of nationality, gender or orientation—has the same opportunities, services and protections to prosper and safely enjoy their home and community.
She was recognized as the Democratic Party of Milwaukee County's 2016 Rising Star for her work as chair of the Latino Caucus of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. In 2018 she received the Community Champion Award from Citizen Action of Wisconsin, and is the former Vice-Chair of NHCSL's Immigration Task Force.
