Sen. Leo Jaramillo (NM)
Senator Leo Jaramillo proudly represents New Mexico’s Senate District 5, which includes Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, and Santa Fe Counties. Elected in 2020, he currently serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Rules Committee, a member of the Corporations and Transportation Committee, and the Majority Caucus Chair for the New Mexico Senate Democratic Leadership team.
A native of the Española Valley, Senator Jaramillo is recognized for his steadfast advocacy on behalf of rural and underserved communities, focusing on equitable access to education, infrastructure investment, and economic opportunity. His bipartisan approach and commitment to transparency have earned him respect across party lines.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of New Mexico and a master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Instructional Leadership from The College of Santa Fe.
In addition to his legislative service, Senator Jaramillo is Staff Operations Manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was selected as a Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellow in 2025, serves as Vice Chair of Media and Culture for NHCSL, and was recognized as one of the nation’s top emerging state legislators through the State Legislative Leaders Foundation program at the University of Virginia.
