Robert J. Rodriguez was born, raised, and educated in East Harlem. He attended P.S. 112, River East, Isaac Newton, and Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. Prior to being elected to the Assembly, he served as Chairman of Community Board 11, representing East Harlem. Robert was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 2010
The legislation supported and sponsored by Assemblymember Rodriguez reflects the needs and concerns of his diverse constituencies. As a champion of rights for aging New Yorkers, the Assemblymember was a key benefactor of the Secure Choice Savings Program which passed in 2018 to ensure equitable access to retirement savings programs. In addition, as an advocate for mass transit reform and equity, Robert re-introduced MoveNY which preceded the governor’s comprehensive Congestion Pricing plan, expected to raise $15 billion for MTA repairs and capital projects beginning in 2021. Robert has co-sponsored bills to legalize medical marijuana (2014), to provide an auditing system for businesses who engage in pension loan advancements to protect licenses and fees (2018), and authored a bill to generate over $3 billion in funding for NYCHA (2019).
