Since 2008, PMI has invested more than USD 10.5 billion to develop, scientifically substantiate, and commercialize innovative smoke-free products that are a better choice for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke. Our goal is to completely end the sale of cigarettes. This investment includes the establishment of world-class scientific assessment capabilities, particularly in the areas of pre-clinical systems toxicology, clinical and behavioral research, and post-market studies.

The Road to a Smoke-Free Future

As of March 31, 2023, our smoke-free products are available in 78 markets, and PMI estimates that approximately 18.5 million adults around the world had already switched to our lead smoke-free prodcut and stopped smoking. Smoke-free products accounted for approximately 35% of PMI’s total 2023 first-quarter net revenues, and our goal is to become a majority smoke-free company in 2025.

Our Global Footprint

Our global family consists of 71,070 employees representing 133 nationalities, with 42% of them being women. We sell our products in approximately 180 markets worldwide, operating 38 manufacturing facilities, eight of which are partially or fully dedicated to producing smoke-free products.

The Hispanic community faces unique tobacco-related health challenges. Over half of Hispanic adult smokers have attempted to quit smoking in the past year without success, with language barriers often contributing  to lower odds of Hispanic smokers receiving quit smoking advice from health professionals. That is why we actively engage with the Hispanic community, aiming to bridge the gap and provide accessible resources and support.  Our goal is to empower individuals to make informed choices and switch to less harmful alternatives compared to continuing smoking.
